Trevecca baseball team starts season off strong

By Trevor West Contributor The Trojans have been voted third in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches’ Poll for the 2024 season after bringing back most of their team from the previous season. The team returned eight freshmen, seven sophomores, 19 juniors, and 11 seniors. The Trojans have also done a lot of recruiting, picking up four freshmen and nine transfers to fill the 2024 roster. “I’m excited about our offense with these guys. I’m more excited about our pitching depth, it’s been the best since I came here and started coaching. Men’s and Women’s track teams kick off season by setting records

By Jett Johnson Sports Editor Men’s and women’s track & field had a strong start to the season at the Ramapo College Season Opener in New York City. Three records were broken at the opener in the 60m dash timed at 6.93 by freshman Zion Griffin, men’s long jump with a leap of 6.30m by freshman Dayton Floyd, and 400m dash with a school record of 50:19 by junior Lucas Baggott. Austin Selby, head coach, is encouraged by this performance. “Feeling really good. It was great to have the early in-town rust buster at Vanderbilt. It led to us having overall one of our best meets we have ever had up in NYC,” said Selby. Transfer basketball player leads team

Page, a junior guard, transferred to Trevecca in August and is averaging 20.3 points a game for the Trojans in his first season on the roster. “I needed a better opportunity to play basketball. I know the type of basketball player I am, and I know at the school I was at wasn’t going to happen. I know where I want to take my career, I want to play this game for a long time. Stunt team wins first ever competition

By Jett Johnson Sports Editor Trevecca’s new STUNT team kicked off the season smashing the competition at the 2024 STUNT Opener Classic. They beat every opponent in the tournament with only Mercyhurst University getting points on the board with three. All other schools were beaten by twenty or more points with the other team scoreless. “I’m excited and definitely optimistic. New women’s soccer coach posts winning record in first year

By David Elvir Staff writer Photo courtesy Trevecca Marketing Nathan Harrell is wrapping up his debut season as the head coach of the Trojans' women's soccer team, and securing a spot in the postseason. Coming in from coaching at Emmanuel College, Harrell brings in experience after coaching 14 years combined at all levels. Harrel has six years of experience as a collegiate head coach and six additional years of club and high school coaching experience. Harrell did not hesitate in pursuing and accepting the position. “I had a few phone conversations with Mark, (Elliott, athletic director), and I just felt the Lord open up doors easily, that I probably couldn’t open up myself. This year, she is the only returning member of the team and serves as a manager and mentor for the mostly-freshman squad. With the new addition of the STUNT program, many cheerleaders wanted to try something new, so Lexi Laucirica, head coach of the team, was left with a completely fresh program – all but two of which are freshman. This has been good for the team, according to Laucirica. “It’s been just a solid refresh for our team culture and the way we operate things, which has definitely been a breath of fresh air to have just new energy and eagerness,” she said. Men’s basketball tips off with new coach, 7 new players

By David Elvir Staff writer After posting a record of 2-24 last year, the Trevecca men’s basketball team is hopeful that seven new players and a new coach will mean a better season. The Trojans had a busy off-season after parting ways with Omar Mance, five-season head coach. The Trojans’ rebuild began with a new coaching staff led by head coach Kevin Carroll. Unveiled on March 30, Carrol brought 23 years of experience to the Hill, just recently as an assistant coach at Lipscomb University. "I am honored and excited to be given the responsibility of ushering in a new era of Trevecca Nazarene University men's basketball," said Carroll. Dan Boone, president of Trevecca, discussed the cost of the athletic facility. “We’re talking about 35 million for the entire project. Something like 20 million for the new gymnasium or competition center, the arena kind of building, and then another seven or eight for the addition to the back of the gym. At a recent press conference, Matt Wilson, Gulf South Conference commissioner, spoke on the importance of this move. “It’s a perfect collaboration and perfect partnership.
