Trevecca Theatre presents Kate Hamill’s witty adaption of Jane Austen’s “Emma”

By Jasmin Enriquez Martinez Features Editor Trevecca’s Theatre department will perform the comedic coming-of-age story Emma adapted by Kate Hamill this Friday.  The show will take place in Benson Auditorium in McClurkan, opening Feb. 20 and running through March 1.  The theatre production of Emma is based on Jane Austen’s classic novel but with a modern twist. The show follows Emma Woodhouse, a young woman who decides to play matchmaker trying to bring people together like her friend Harriet Smith. SGA brings back “Big Game Show” for second year

By Macey Smith Staff Writer Trevecca students have the chance to show off their skills, cheer on their friends, and win prizes at the upcoming “Big Game Show” competition on Tuesday, Feb. 24, from 7-9 p.m. in the Boone Convocation Center.   This is the second year SGA puts on the “Big Game Show,” which mimics popular game shows such as Family Feud, Jeopardy, and The Price is Right. Lauren Steibrook News and Engagement Editor Trevecca’s Theatre Department is performing, And Then They Came for Me: Remembering the World of Anne Frank, for one weekend only.  And Then They Came for Me,is a multimedia production that blends live performance with filmed interviews from Holocaust survivors.  The show will be performed in Benson Auditorium, with evening performances scheduled for Jan. 22–25. They smile, exchange a quick “Hey, how are you?” and keep walking. Parker Henningsen Chief of Photography Trevecca’s annual singing competition, Trojan Idol, returned with two nights of performances, new judges and a fresh lineup of talent. The event, was held on Nov. 18 and Nov. 20 in the Boone Convocation Center, allows audience members to vote contestants forward until one winner remains. New student clubs at Trevecca offer creative, professional and service-focused outlets

Keturah Tobias Senior Reporter From a photography club to a leatherworking club, four new student-led clubs are now on Trevecca’s campus, offering more connections and creative spaces. The four new clubs were approved by Trevecca’s Student Government Association, known as SGA: BizCrush, Photography, Practical Faith, and Leatherworking Club. These clubs were established in response to student interest.  BizCrush, created by Ryan Pimentel and Dany Saweres, a former Trevecca student, is a club that helps students enhance their college experiences by preparing them for professional life after graduation. Trevecca students join poverty simulation to better understand low-income challenges

Alana Mclaughlin Senior Reporter Trevecca students participated in a Poverty Simulation on Monday, Nov. 17, in the Boone Convocation Center to raise awareness about what it’s like to live in a typical low-income family. Around 88 participants assumed the roles of 26 different families facing poverty. The task of the “families” was to provide for basic necessities and shelter during the course of four 15-minute “weeks.” Jamie Casler, director of the Center for Social Justice, served as coordinator for this event.  “Part of my responsibility and role as director is to provide experiences for students to experience poverty, so they can empathize with the people that we’re serving in our community,” said Casler.  This event, based on the MACA (Missouri Association for ...

Trojan Idol returns Tuesday with new voices, new judges and high anticipation

Lauren Steinbrook News and Engagement Editor Trevecca’s annual singing competition, Trojan Idol, returns this week with two nights of performances, all new judges, and new competition.  The event will take place Tuesday, Nov. 18, and Thursday, Nov. 20, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Boone Convocation Center. The annual singing competition allows audience members to vote for contestants to move forward until there is one winner.  “Your vote matters,” said  Kamyrn Sanderfer, ASB director of marketing and communications. “There are so many good singers this year that it’s honestly impossible to predict. If you want your friends to move on, you actually have to show up and vote.”  Trojan Idol remains one of Trevecca’s most established and beloved traditions. “...
