Trevecca student-led band advances to round two in local music contest

By Christy Ulmet Phin, a band of Trevecca students, alumni, and a sibling of a student, advanced to the second round in Lightning 100’s Sixth Annual Music City Mayhem. Music City Mayhem is an annual contest hosted by Lightning 100 in which over 340 bands auditioned for this year. The contest is set up in a bracket system, like March Madness, and begins with 32 bands. Bands are paired together randomly to run up against one another, and the contest goes on until four bands are left. (more…)

72-Hour Film Fest winners announced

By Christy Ulmet Trevecca’s annual 72-Hour Film Festival winners were announced at this year’s Friday Night Live. On February 11, the annual event was held at a crowded Belcourt Theatre. Students were given genres and wild cards to include in their films, and had a total of 72 hours to put together their films. Ten films were entered in the competition. The audience was given ballots as they walked in, and served as the judges for the evening. Trevecca’s annual Friday Night Live takes the stage

By Christy Ulmet After nearly three months of preparation, more than 30 students helped put on the two back to back sold out shows of this year’s Friday Night Live. Keeping the noise going for the evening was the FNL band, made up of students. Hosted by Trevecca’s very own Dr. Mike Jackson, FNL drew nearly 500 people. (more…)

Dean Diehl Leaving Trevecca To Go Back To Provident Music Group

by Stephen Rudge The director of Trevecca’s music business program is headed back to the label where he worked for 20 years before going full time in the class room. Dean Diehl will become Senior Vice President of Provident Music Group, effective at the end of the semester. Provident is a division of Sony Music Entertainment focusing primarily on Christian music. Broken Window In Music Building- Possible Vandalism?

by Stephen Rudge Trevecca officials are monitoring the music building a little more closely after a widow was reported shattered yesterday. A student notified security around midnight Jan. 31 that the window facing the quad was broken. “It could have been broken accidentally. I have no idea how hard it is to break the glass in the music building,” said Norm Robison, director of campus security. (more…)
