Athletics celebrates all teams averaging above 3.0 GPA

Photo courtesy Trevecca athletics By Jett Johnson Sports Editor This year all Trevecca sports teams are averaging over a 3.0 GPA for the first time in history. Emily Moore, head volleyball coach and associate athletic director, says academic excellence is a focus of the athletic department. "I would say it's one of the most, if not the most important, parts of being a student-athlete. One of my favorite things to see is my athletes saying they're here because of volleyball and then their grades rise because of it. It helps me to know how motivated they are," said Moore. Moore is optimistic about not only her team reaching that mark, but the whole athletic department. "It's very encouraging. All of the coaching staff strives for that 3.0 and to see not only my team bu...

With David Head, head coach, entering his 10th season as the head coach, he is ready for the season and has a lot of goals for his team. "Every year, our goal is to win the conference championship, and if we win the conference championship, we then qualify for the NCAA postseason play, which is our goal as well," said Head. The Trojans schedule will consist of six regular season games. The spring season began on Feb. 26 and 27. Men’s and women’s basketball overviews

By Jett Johnson Sports Editor Photo by Alayna Simons, Editor-in-Chief Men’s basketball Men’s Basketball has had a great turnaround season and is heading into tournament season with a strong record of 15-10. Men’s Basketball head coach Kevin Carroll is pleased with the team's success.  "It’s very gratifying. I don’t go into seasons predicting records and things of that nature. I’m more of a take-it day-by-day kind of guy, and I’m really grateful for the way our guys have come together. We’ve had a really good record at home and that’s been a big part of our overall success," said Carroll.  The men's team has four players averaging double figures in scoring, and according to Carroll, this is their preferred style of offense.  "That's really just our style of play. I...

The Trojans have also done a lot of recruiting, picking up four freshmen and nine transfers to fill the 2024 roster. “I’m excited about our offense with these guys. I’m more excited about our pitching depth, it’s been the best since I came here and started coaching. Just all around I think with this group of guys we are going to be a lot better since we have more chemistry than the previous seasons,” said Chase Sain, head coach.  The Trojans key players from the previous season com...

Transfer basketball player leads team

By Trevor West Contributor Photo by Alayna Simons, Editor-in-Chief After three years of feeling frustrated with his playing time on the men’s basketball team at Lee University, Jalen Page took a big risk for his last two years. Page, a junior guard, transferred to Trevecca in August and is averaging 20.3 points a game for the Trojans in his first season on the roster. “I needed a better opportunity to play basketball. I know the type of basketball player I am, and I know at the school I was at wasn’t going to happen. I know where I want to take my career, I want to play this game for a long time. I know that my best years are in front of me, not behind me,” Page said. Coach Kevin Carroll saw something in Page that caught his attention when he became active in the transfe...

Trevecca moves to the Gulf South Conference

By Jett Johnson Sports Editor Photo curtesy Trevecca Athletics Trevecca is set to move from the G-MAC to the Gulf South Conference for the 2024-2025 academic year. At a recent press conference, Matt Wilson, Gulf South Conference commissioner, spoke on the importance of this move. “It’s a perfect collaboration and perfect partnership. The investment that the institution is making from the amount of personnel, staff and resources they provide student-athletes to have incredible academic athletic success,” said Wilson. “From the investment being put into the student housing, libraries and campus athletic facilities shows a clear vision of who Trevecca wants to be. That looks a lot like the Gulf South Conference.” Wilson also praises the location and fit when it comes to ...
