The Trevecca men’s golf team is back in action looking for another season to put in the books.
With David Head, head coach, entering his 10th season as the head coach, he is ready for the season and has a lot of goals for his team.
“Every year, our goal is to win the conference championship, and if we win the conference championship, we then qualify for the NCAA postseason play, which is our goal as well,” said Head.
The Trojans schedule will consist of six regular season games. The spring season began on Feb. 26 and 27.
The Trojans have one final tune-up for the post season, and that is the Music City Invitational at the Hermitage Golf Course in Old Hickory, Tennessee. The Trevecca hosted event is set for April 15 and 16.
The Great Midwest Championships are April 22 through 24 at The Pearl Club in Owensboro, Kentucky. The NCAA Midwest/Central Super Regional is May 9-11, and the NCAA Championships are May 20-25 at the Orange County National Golf Club in Orlando, Florida.
The Men’s Golf squad features nine athletes. There is one senior, newcomer Cameron Fletcher-Smith. The four juniors are William Moser, Jack Kenmare, Zane Johnson, and Josh Breland. The only sophomore, Alex Hamm. The Trojans welcomed in three freshmen: Maddox Burton, Lucas Barrett, and Brando Bisicchia.
“The two key players that stand out to me are two young guys, one is a freshman from Dallas, Texas Maddox Burton. He has a ton of talent, and he is just learning a lot and it’s great to see because he’s only a freshman. The next standout I have is Alex Hamm, a sophomore from Brentwood, Tennessee. He had an outstanding freshman year, and he’s really developing and really starting to take his game to the next level in the competition,” said Head.
Burton has been training and preparing for this upcoming spring season.
“I have been doing a lot of short games, working on 5 footers and 10 to 15 footers, and mainly making sure my swing stays consistent to be able to compete at a high level,” said Burton.
In the fall season of 2023 Hamm shot the third lowest single round in Trevecca history shooting a 66 in the second round at The Buddy, hosted by Murray State University at the Miller Memorial Golf Course. Hamm continues to keep his same routine and work harder to play at the college level.
Both Hamm and Burton also have some of the same personal goals heading into this last stretch of the regular season.
Their goals were to place well in every tournament and when conference comes around to perform well and move into the regional tournament.
