Behind the scenes of the 72-Hour Film Festival

By Griffin Dunn Students made many late night efforts this weekend preparing for Trevecca SGA's 72-Hour Film Festival at Trevecca. The teams of students were assigned a genre last Friday at 9 p.m. and have until Monday at 9 p.m. to complete a short film, which fulfills not only their genre but also other set tasks for bonus points. Need weekend plans? Several shows on campus this weekend

 By Olivia Kelley Students on campus should have no trouble finding things to do this weekend with three shows scheduled. Beginning Thursday night at 7 p.m., the Madrigalians will be hosting their 23rd annual Mads Dinner. This event takes place every year to help the Madrigalians raise money for the tour they take at the end of the spring semester. “It is our biggest fundraiser of the year,” said student director Michelle Cantrell The theme for this year’s dinner is "Into the Woods" and will feature skits based on the hit musical that the Mads wrote themselves. “We’ve pretty much been here all week putting it together,” said Cantrell. “We write our own scripts, set the stage, create a menu. Friday Night Live returns to campus

by Zach Farnum Trevecca students packed Benson Auditorium Friday night for two consecutive showings of “Friday Night Live." The annual SGA sponsored event is one of the most anticipated student events of the school year. “[FNL] has developed a reputation for being extremely entertaining and funny with great production, while gently poking fun of ourselves,” said Matt Spraker, associate dean of students for community life. The night, hosted by fiancées Amanda Grieme and CJ Bradley, included a plethora of skits and videos put together and performed by students and echoing well-known sketches from NBC’s “Saturday Night Live." Reba makes an appearance at Trevecca

By Christy Ulmet “A single mom who works two jobs, who loves her kids and never stops. With gentle hands and the heart of a fighter. I’m a survivor." Those words sound familiar? You might have heard the theme song from the TV show “Reba” if you were anywhere near the Boone Convocation Center Saturday afternoon. More than 200 women from the Nashville Rescue Mission dressed in their Sunday best, loaded a few coach buses, and made their way to the Boone building for a luncheon fundraiser, hosted by the Rescue Mission. They were joined by an additional large group of women who came to the event in support of the nonprofit. (more…)

The King Stag prepares for opening weekend

Chance to see “Selma” for free tonight

by Zach Farnum Trevecca students on Thursday can go see "Selma", a movie about the voting rights march from Selma Montgomery, Ala, for free. Trevecca SGA will be sponsoring the trip so tickets are free with a SLAP card and regular cinema ticket price without. The movie will begin at 7:20 p.m. with two vans leaving from the Hub at 6:45 p.m. for Opry Mills Cinema. This event is part of Trevecca’s multicultural and diversity program as February is Black History Month. (more…)

Spiritual Deepening Week at Trevecca

by Bailey Basham Next week, February 2-6, students and faculty will gather for Trevecca’s bi-annual Spiritual Deeping Week. Deirdre Bower-Latz, president of Nazarene Theological College in Manchester, England, will be delivering a series of messages inspired by Psalm 42:7 and will be wrestling with what the scripture means in regards to her own faith and spiritual journey. Trojan Idol remains a hit

By Maci Shingleton Trevecca on Tuesday hosted its annual Trojan Idol competition in the Boone Business Building.  Hundreds of students, faculty, alumni, and fans crowded together to watch the first of the two-night vocal performance competition. Ten students were selected last month after auditions and each performed last night in front of their peers and a panel of three tough judges. Five finalists were selected by students and a panel of judges to perform in Thursday night's final competition. Judges have the power to chose two finalists and selected Maureen Maltez who sang “Respect” and Savannah Walters who sang “I Just Haven’t Met You Yet." (more…)

Students prepare for Benson Hall haunted house

Tonight Benson Hall will host their annual Haunted House and Fall Festival. Students are invited to walk through The Benson Manor, a haunted house put on by students, as well as enjoy a fall festival on the 3rd floor of Benson. The festival will include pumpkin carving, caramel apples and music. The event is from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. and is free. (more…)

Celebrity Skate night is a hit

Saturday night Trevecca students filled the Brentwood Skate Center dressed as their favorite celebrities for SGA’s annual Celebrity Skate Night. Memorable costumes included Mount Rushmore, a character from Avatar, and a can of Sundrop. (more…)
