Hub Show highlights campus talent

by Ashley Walling The first time the song “You’re not in love” by a Trevecca duo made an appearance was at the Hub Show on Wednesday night. Singer and songwriters Jake Neumar and Laura Adkins performed their original song “You’re not in love” to a student audience full of cheers, claps and whistling. “That song was flirting with me and I fell,” said freshman, Samuel Iglesias. Every Wednesday night the Hub turns into a live music venue for aspiring singers and songwriters at Trevecca. The event, hosted by Student Development, was designed as a way to create a regular stage and audience for students who are pursuing music careers. Trojan Idol starts tonight

by Olivia Kelley Trojan Idol is kicking off tonight in Boone Convocation Center at 8 pm. Trojan Idol, Trevecca’s annual student singing competition, will be going on this week. The show typically consists of 10 students who auditioned and were chosen to compete. Students and judges get to vote on their favorites to pick a winner. This year, there will be two sets of judges — a different set each night and will include Unspoken drummer Ariel Munoz along with several Trevecca alumni and music teacher, Abby Burke. Hosting the event will be senior music major, Caleb Willis, and senior exercise science major, Chris Elliot. “We are expecting about 400 people for each night,” said ASB Social life director Kaylon King. Trevecca’s annual homecoming kicks off tonight

Trevecca’s annual homecoming celebration is set to kick off tonight with the Homecoming Banquet in the Boone Convocation Center. Every year, Trevecca brings in alumni from all over to celebrate Homecoming. Last year, roughly 1,600 people attended and this year they are expecting as many as 2,000 to show up. “A lot of alumni enjoyed their time here at college and feel connected to the campus community. It’s a reminder of the past, but also a way for people to keep up with what’s going on currently at their alma mater,” said Michael Johnson, director of alumni and church engagement. Fall musical opens Thursday

by Brittni Carmack After six weeks of rehearsal, Children of Eden, the fall musical staged by theatre students in the Trevecca Department of Communication, will open Thursday in Benson Auditorium. Children of Eden is a two-act musical with music and lyrics written by Stephen Schwartz and book by John Caird. The musical was inspired by the events that happen in the first 10 chapters of Genesis. “Children of Eden tackles the complex story of Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel in Act 1, and takes a hard look at Noah and the Flood in the second act,” said Jeff Frame, professor of dramatic arts and communication. Club Rush bigger than ever this year

Games and prize giveaways will be taking place tomorrow at Trevecca’s annual club rush. This year,  16 clubs will be on display for students interested in getting more involved on campus. “We are going to have everything from ice hockey to D-groups there this year,” said junior class vice president, Josh Durham. There’s also going to be music and games, such as corn hole at the event. SGA will also be giving away prizes in a drawing. To enter the drawing, participants must get a representative from each club to sign off on a piece of paper with their name on it. The winners will receive either a GoPro camera, a free slap card or two tickets to Escape Game Nashville. (more…)

First annual barn dance a success

The dance was the first fundraiser held in the new barn on campus. The $5 entry fee was used to raise funds for future farm projects, said Jason Adkins, farm manager.

Urban farm to host its first event in new barn

International student club hosts 8th annual Taste the Nations

By Manon Lane More than 200 people took a global tour without leaving Trevecca’s campus Friday night, as the international student club NAMASTE, hosted the eighth annual Taste the Nations. Trevecca students, faculty and staff had the opportunity to sample food from 15 different countries before the global entertainment and worship began. “I really like the Chinese food,” said Trevecca freshman Dalisa White, who looked forward to tasting food from different countries as a way to prepare for international travel. This summer she will spend a week in El Salvador on her first mission trip. (more…)

The Playboy of the Western World begins this weekend

By Griffin Dunn Trevecca theater students open a new show tonight. The Playboy of the Western World, begins tonight and runs the next two weekends. The comedy by John Millington Synge is set in 1907 Ireland. When a stranger arrives with a big secret, the community takes notice. The show runs April 16 through 18 and 23 through 25 at 7 p.m., with a special afternoon matinee at 3 p.m. on April 25 in Benson Theatre in McClurkan Hall. General admission is $7, with a $5 price for TNU students with ID. (more…)

Zumba classes offered as part of expanding fitness options

By Joseph Hutton Zumba classes are now offered to students and staff on campus. On Mondays at 4:45pm and Wednesdays at 7 p.m., students can participate in zumba for an hour in the racquetball courts in Moore. Zumba is a fitness program that is focused on dance and aerobic elements. Hip-hop, salsa, and samba moves are incorporated with squats and lunges all set to upbeat music. (more…)
