As election day approaches, Trevecca is supporting its students and the community around them with resources and events to prepare.
“We’re trying to bring information to campus to eliminate that as a hurdle for students to vote is helping them get registered,” said Megan McGhee, assistant dean of student life.
During the upcoming weeks students will enjoy a variety of events that will prepare them for the upcoming elections.
- Voter registration: Students and Professors will be seated at a table in Jernigan during lunch time with links and information to help them with the registration process. They will be present the following dates: Sept. 20, Sept. 23, Sept. 24, Oct. 1, Oct. 3, and Oct. 4.
- Inclusive Communities- Professional Perspectives in Immigration: Trevecca SGA, the Inclusion and Belonging Office, and the National Immigration Forum partnered to bring Arturo Castellanos-Canales, immigration policy specialist, Nestor Hernandez, director of patient access, and Benjamin Fabie, ESL teacher and coach, to campus and have an immigration panel where students will receive a professional perspective of immigration. This event will happen Sept. 24 at the President’s Dining Room in Jernigan from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Postcard party with TIRRC: On Thursday, Sept. 26 outside of Jernigan from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m., students will write and sign postcards for immigrant families in the Davidson County area (that are eligible to vote) to inform them about the election process in the United States. There will be snacks and music.
- Vice Presidential debate viewing: Students can enjoy the vice presidential debate Oct. 1 in the Hub. Time will be determined closer to time.
