Wondering what to recycle? A guide to campus recycling

By Sol Ayala Online Editor Students can find 10 recycling bins outside public spaces, in the library, resident halls, and specifically the big recycling bin behind Redford apartments are all available options for the Trevecca community. But, students say it’s hard to know what goes where and they’re not confident they’re doing it right. The bins don’t have instructions on them explaining what can be recycled and what can’t. “It’s also really unclear what you’re able to recycle,” said Katherine Carter, coordinator for Trevecca Urban Farm. “I think because people don’t see recycling being valued necessarily by the institution, they feel like it’s too much work, or is inconvenient, or even if they put in the effort, it’s not gonna mean anything.” While many put their items in t...

Varela, in her final season of eligibility, is eager to make an impact in the Trojan backcourt with her leadership and playmaking ability. Her veteran experience is already proving valuable to the team. "We knew coming in that she would bring leadership and experience. She has been a great scorer, knowing when to pick and choose her spots," said Head Coach Karen Booker about Varela.   A native of Connecticut, Varela's game is rooted in a fundamentally sound style that contrasts with the faster-paced play often s...

Campus officials work to communicate about safety on campus

By Alayna Simons Editor-in-Chief Photos courtesy Trevecca Marketing When her roommate came home from work talking about how a body was found near campus according to a local news article, Eliana Peña, a junior, waited to hear what Trevecca would say about it. “It makes me really concerned that this type of incident can arise so close to Trevecca being that it is portrayed as a safe campus,” said Peña. “People need to be aware of what places are not safe to go to that are close to campus.” Because of this incident happening, she and her roommate still don’t drive down the road where it had taken place, she said.  A couple incidents around campus in the last year have made the local news with Trevecca being reported by news outlets as the location.  And while no s...
