He has previous coaching experience as an assistant coach at Lee University and was a part of the coaching s...

Sensing, a senior, tied the all-time appearance record with her starts in game one and two. She also broke the all-time Trevecca strikeout record of 617. “It means a lot, but I couldn’t have done it without my team behind me and Coach Tyree’s guidance,” said Sensing. Trevecca baseball begins GSC conference play with high expectations

By Natalia Bowles Staff Writer Wes Sharpe/Trevecca Athletics After finishing the 2024 season with a 33- 23 overall record (20-12 conference), the Trevecca baseball team entered 2025 in unfamiliar territory. With a move from the Great Midwest Athletic Conference to the highly competitive Gulf South Conference, the team faces new challenges as it looks to establish itself in a new league. The Trojans have struggled with an 8-14 start to the season. However, with conference play approaching, head coach Chase Sain is optimistic about the team’s potential. “We’re a veteran team. We’ve got some guys who have played a lot of baseball at the college level, and they bring a lot of experience,” said Sain. “It’s really good to go into a new conference with more of a mature team.” ...

Student athletes preparing for life after playing college sports

By Natalia Bowles Staff Writer Trevecca’s men’s soccer team huddles in the middle of a game against Spring Hill on Jan. 6, 2025.Greg Ruff/Trevecca Athletics For senior athletes at Trevecca, their final days as members of a sports team are approaching. Student-athletes spend years dedicating themselves to their sport, often leaving little time to focus on career development. On average, student-athletes spend about 70 hours a week on athletic and academic demands, according to the NCAA. While their experiences instill discipline, teamwork, and leadership, these same experiences also mean athletes don’t have as much time to network, complete internships, or participate in career-ready activities, said Karen Weaver, a sports management professor at the University of Pennsylvani...

Trevecca Stunt not an official sport in new conference

By Parker Henningsen Staff Writer Trevecca’s STUNT team competing against Purdue University at the Trojan Field House on Feb. 21, 2025. Wes Sharpe/Trevecca Athletics Trevecca stunt is the only sport on campus not sponsored by the GSC. Stunt is widely regarded as an “emerging sport” across the United States, with only a few conferences nationwide sponsoring it as a sport. One of those is the G-MAC, which Trevecca left this past summer. “The only difference is that we don’t get recognition awards like Player of the Week and things like that. We also are playing against primarily D1 teams,” said Kelly Quigley, stunt head coach. Emerging sports can still compete, but not in an organized conference like the NCAA or the GSC. Instead, they form their own conferences so teams can...

Lacrosse team on standby, Trevecca hopes to secure team and space by fall of 2026

By Parker Hennigson Staff Writer Trevecca will not be recruiting for a women’s lacrosse team in the spring of 2025 as intended. Mark Elliott, Trevecca’s athletic director, said it could be up to two more years before a program is fully running on campus. “We have promised to start the team, but the start date is still undetermined,” Elliott said. Due to a lack of space and coaching staff, women’s lacrosse wasn’t pursued until the university switched from the GMAC Conference to the GSC in the summer of 2024. Trevecca signed a deal with the GSC that allowed the university to join the conference in return for having a functioning women’s lacrosse team on campus by the fall of 2026. There is still no space, but the athletic department has found a potential coach, jump-star...

Although the blanket waiver will not be extended to DII schools, the council has voted for an extensive revision into eligibility, possibly granting athletes a fifth year of play.
