Trevecca Volleyball Defeats Northwood on Senior Day; Claim Program Record Tenth Conference Win

By: David Wilson The Trevecca Nazarene University volleyball team swept Northwood University in straight sets (25-22, 25-16, 25-17) on Senior night at Trojan Fieldhouse. With the win, the Trojans have won ten conference games for the first time since joining NCAA DII. Seniors Ellie Buffler, Emma Green, and Sami Raley were honored during a pregame ceremony. “Our seniors are the three musketeers. Trevecca men’s soccer 2022 season update

By Jett Johnson Assistant Sports Editor Trevecca’s men’s soccer team has kicked off the first nine games of the season with a record of 3-7. Although the start to the season has not been perfect, head coach Danny Leavy had positive takeaways from the preseason practices. “It was earlier than normal because this is called a festival year for the NCAA. It started 10 days earlier than we normally start, so that made a big difference organizationally during the summer,” said Leavy. Student focus groups to start this week to continue discussion about racial climate on campus

By Claudia Villeda Online Media Editor Following the results of the campus climate survey last spring, third-party moderators will begin conducting student focus groups this week to continue the discussion of racial issues on campus. Emails were sent out last week by Terrance Schofield, associate provost of mission excellence and reconciliation. with a sign-up form for any volunteers. The email from Schofield also included a video with President Dan Boone encouraging students to volunteer. Boone hopes the feedback from the groups will help administration know how to “help students feel a sense of belonging” at Trevecca. Campus officials work to prepare for potential emergency

By Abigail Allen Staff Writer Trevecca’s faculty and administration participated in active shooter training over the summer in response to the reality of mass shooting incidents. Roughly 500 mass shootings have occurred so far in 2022, according to the Gun Violence Archive. The archive also reported that the number of mass shooting incidents in the U.S. has increased by 46 percent from 2019 to 2020. Lena Hegi Welch, dean of the school of arts and social sciences, was among those who participated in the training. “They took us into different classrooms on campus and talked about how a teacher in each classroom could protect students,” said Welch. “It heightened my awareness of what to do if I were on campus with an active shooter.” The training was designed to suppor...

New telehealth app offers free medical and mental health services to students

By Alayna Simons Assistant News Editor The Timely Care app is an easy-access, mental health and medical help service app new to campus. Provided to Trevecca students, it is free of charge for the first 12 counseling sessions, and medical care is accessible 24/7. The app can treat a wide range of common conditions: physical conditions like the cold and other illnesses, mental health conditions like stress and anxiety, and nutrition and overall health. More than 40 percent of the 378 first-year students are from a minority group, and freshmen this year represent 11 countries and 12 U.S. states. By Grace Beckner Editor-in-Chief Updates have been made to the student meal plan to include “dining dollars” that can be spent at dining locations other than the cafeteria. Some students have voiced concerns over the changes, saying it caused some worry and confusion when they found out. “I was a little bit wary because I really liked the way [the meal plan] was set up before,” said Hanna Brock, a junior psychology major. “I just don’t know how I feel about the dining dollars in general.
