Trevecca’s Hockey team is back, except they’re not playing hockey.

Official headshots and team shirts, but they aren’t hockey players, and no hockey is being played, So does Trevecca have a hockey team or not?

At the end of the summer, Tyler Fuller, team captain, went to Dicks Sporting Goods, bought some shirts and had someone he knew print a logo on them. He then took the 25 shirts to his friends and asked them if they would like to purchase one.

“He [Tyler] was like, ‘Yo, I have an idea. Would you be interested in buying a Trevecca hockey shirt?’ And I was like, what? Because we obviously don’t have a team,” said Isaac Temko, member of the hockey team. “I was like, that’s the funniest thing ever; of course I’ll buy one.”

For those not aware, hockey is not an official sport at Trevecca.

“I’ve actually never played hockey before,” said Fuller. “I was just trying to think of a sport, and nobody here plays hockey. The shirts are good conversation starters, almost everyone on the team is like an extrovert. So it was just another way we can talk to more people.”

It is all a harmless joke, but it got everyone talking and even some asking to be on the team. 

But it didn’t end with just shirts to wear around campus to confuse the freshmen. They took it to Instagram, the @treveccahockey Instagram account currently has over 290 followers. Their first post was a celebratory first day of school with pictures of the players.

Then, it was the announcement post for their first game day. It was Home vs Preds U18, but the game was canceled after an official statement posted on their account that unfortunately the game had been canceled due to a fish getting into the ice.

“I guess it’s kinda spoiling it, but we’re just gonna keep saying stuff like that, so we like never end up playing,” admitted Temko.

Their most popular supporter is none other than Dan Boone, university president.

“We went up to him. We were like, we would be honored if you took the shirt,” said Fuller, who made his brother run to his room and grab the shirt for Boone. “But he was like yeah I’m all for it, if anybody says anything to you guys, you’re sanctioned by the president.”

Next in their agenda was their first-ever dorm party.

To go to the party, you must have to be on the list, far more exclusive than the president’s dining room. 

“I think they [the party bouncers] counted like about 70 people,” said Fuller.

As unserious the whole thing is, the team is very serious about keeping it going. Signing in new team members and their funny Instagram reels are keeping the account active and getting more followers. 

With a presidential endorsement in their pockets, the Hockey team’s journey will continue as a culture shifter in Trevecca history. This team ain’t going anywhere but your Instagram timeline.
