Senior goalkeeper Adan Gonzalez was awarded the Gulf South Conference Goalkeeper of the Week award twice this season, the most recent on Oct. 22.

Gonzalez is the first Trojan to receive the award twice as a part of the new conference, along with the Tennessee Sports Writers Association’s Player of the Week award.

“I feel incredibly honored,” said Gonzalez about the awards. “It’s only the beginning and a great accomplishment to honor my family and team.”

Gonzalez became a starter for the team the same year Hayden Coffman began his career as a goalkeeper coach for the men’s soccer teams.

“I think at that time it was a clear choice, that [Gonzalez] could do the job, and do the job well,” said Coffman.

He has shown tremendous growth both on and off the field since his freshman year and has made a visible impact on the team, according to head coach Danny Leavy.

“He’s really grown a lot. I’ll say his confidence and leadership have grown,” said Leavy.

This growth can largely be attributed to Gonzalez’s dedication to the team and his humility, according to Leavy.

“Playing for Trevecca as a goalkeeper has made me grow as a person, taking one game at a time, it has allowed me to grow as a person and as a player and to not take anything for granted,” Gonzalez said.

Gonzalez emphasized how regular practice and competition have improved his athletic ability and goalkeeping technique.

“Defensively, we were very good that week compared to the rest of the conference,” said Leavy. “This is a very competitive conference on the men’s soccer side, so that speaks volumes.”

Gonzalez’s accomplishments show not only his development as a person but his commitment and the encouragement he has gotten from his family and teammates.

He continues to show out in conference play by only allowing 2 goals in the last three games, with his last game being a shutout victory against Lee University.
