On the men’s side of things, they have played two tournaments thus far – one in Virginia and the other in Mississippi. In Virginia, the men placed 12th  overall and fourth overall in Mississippi.

“We are mostly focusing on our short game around the greens. Obviously, finding the fairway is a big thing but what we try to focus on is our wedges,” said Maddox Burton, junior men’s golf player.

Burton had an impressive contribution to the team placing so high with an average of 4.10 strokes a hole and finished within the top 10 with 37 pars.

Head Coach, David Head, looks forward to this season.

“We’ve got some good new faces and a nice mix of returners on both teams, so I’m excited. I think we are going to do better [than last season],” said Head

The women’s team has played in three tournaments so far, with their fourth during fall break.

Makenzie Norwood, senior women’s golf player, led the Trojans this past weekend at the St. Simons Island Invitational with 6 birdies and a 229 stroke total through three rounds.

“I think the dynamic [of the team] is really good this year, and we are all super close and get along. Which makes us play better because it is fun,” said Norwood.

The men play again on Oct. 20-21 in Cleveland, Miss. for the W. Derrall Foreman Invitational, and the women play Oct. 13-14 in Greensboro, Ga. for the Newberry College Tournament.
