The International Student Council will be hosting Taste the Nations at Trevecca Community Church on March 21 starting at 6 p.m.
“I’m excited for everyone to get to know a little bit of each country,” said Victoria Enamorado, vice president of the international student council. “I feel like most people just know about their country and I want to share and make them explore different cultures and also foods we have.”
Trevecca has hosted Taste the Nations yearly since 2007, except for 2020, to celebrate and commemorate the cultures of the countries present on campus.
“We did it to give them an opportunity to show off their culture, their ideas, their values of the culture, and to just educate the Trevecca public on various international cultures on campus,” said Roy Philip, associate professor of business, and founder of Taste the Nations.
During this year’s event, students will have the chance to taste food from different nations, listen to music from different languages, watch performances from students on campus, and participate in a trivia contest where the winning table will get desserts.
“We’ll be having some proverbs readings, also we’re planning on having dances, a cultural shock session, a study abroad session,” said Mario Lopez, president of the international student council. “Apart from this we’ll be having some people singing and performing, and also a trivia as well, it’s going to be great.”
This event is an opportunity for students on campus to learn from different cultures around the world.
“Taste the Nations is a way for the Trevecca community, whose majority ethnicity and majority culture is from Tennessee or the US, to experience something just different,” said Rebecca Merrick, director of global engagement. “It’s a good opportunity to hear from those who are not the majority of one piece of their culture, one piece of their language, and definitely more than one piece of their food.”
Tickets are $2, and are on sale during lunchtime at a table set in front of the dining hall, and will be sold at the entrance of the event as well.
