Sodexo date nights serve up fancy food at affordable cost

Photo courtesy Trevecca Dining By Jedidiah Blomberg Staff Writer Couples looking for a date night idea need look no further than Jernigan’s Apple Dining Hall. On Thursday, October 26, Sodexo will host the second Sodexo Date Night featuring fall themes, a three-course meal with a planned main course of steak and perhaps a pumpkin-themed dessert. For $6 and a meal swipe, Trevecca students can have a good quality restaurant experience, said Benjamin Ramirez, Sodexo’s marketing manager. “You just put in your order, we make it fresh, and bring it out. It is like a restaurant, but on campus,” he said. Photo courtesy Trevecca Dining While it is called a date night, Ramirez said the event is open to anyone. The first date night was last month. New graphic design curriculum set for fall 2024

By Alayna Simons Editor-in-chief The graphic design major is now moving to the communication department and introducing new courses after years of being connected with the department of STEM. “I think that the students are really going to love the direction we’re going,” said dean of communications, Dr. Lena Hegi Welch. The 36 credit-hour graphic design curriculum will be introduced fall of 2024 and will include classes relating to visual communication, web design, print design, and motion graphics. The draft for the program has gone through eight or nine graphic designers for feedback and editing, and has gone through the process of approval by several communication professors, in order to make the program most fitting for students. “Everyone has been so gracious and coo...

May Graduate Promoted to Dining Hall Manager

Photo by Natasha Clark Photographer By Emily Gibson Section Editor Kaylah Richey decided in the eighth grade that she wanted to be a chef and manage a dining service of some sort someday. She had no idea she would be living her dream immediately after her college graduation at her alma mater at the age of 22. Richey, who graduated with a business degree in May, was recently promoted from her previous position as student supervisor of the Apple Dining Hall where she managed student workers to the Dining Hall Manager where she now oversees the work of over 30 dining hall staff. “I knew that I’d probably go to a supervisor job and then eventually get to that manager position, but I didn’t know that it would come so quickly, and I’m just very happy with how everything turned...

Chapel Theme Addresses ‘Epidemic of Loneliness’

Photo courtesy Trevecca Marketing By Mia Agee Assistant News Editor Prior to attending Trevecca, Naomi Akinbade, senior biology major and student body chaplain, had been deeply wounded by her friendships and other close relationships. Though she considers herself an extrovert and an avid people person, these “love wounds” caused her to maintain shallow relationships and isolate herself from others. Once she confessed her struggles to her friends and began practicing vulnerability–a challenge she said God placed on her heart–she discovered that many of her friends were facing some of the same things. This calling, paired with conversations with Erik Gernand, university chaplain, birthed the idea for this year’s chapel theme–“a binding together in love.” The university’s cha...

Cross Country Runner Makes Comeback After Car Accident

Photo curtesy of Trevecca Athletics By Jett Johnson Sports Editor Samantha Rosencrants, sophomore women’s cross country runner, has returned to competition after a season- ending car accident that occurred in September of last year. She is glad to be back running again in just a year after needing physical therapy to stand and walk. “It honestly feels unreal. I’ve had a lot of healing from the hospital to going back home. It’s a very unreal experience,” said Rosencrants. Austin Selby, head coach of men’s and women’s cross country, is also very glad that Rosencrants is back in competition. “It’s huge to have her back. I just think back to this time last year after the wreck. We didn’t know whether we would race or not. To have her practicing and competing is great,” sa...

First Generation Graduate Hired as Diversity Coordinator

By Bailey Basham When Brodrick Thomas was younger, it was his dream to play football at Auburn. For Thomas, however, getting through school wasn’t easy. “My mom dropped out of junior high school, so she didn’t have any education and didn’t really understand it very much. My dad died when I was in fifth grade, and she had to take on multiple jobs to keep us fed and under shelter. She didn’t have the knowledge to help me, but she was always a strong advocate of education,” said Thomas. “When I first went to college, my mom had no idea of how to help me in any way.”   (more…)

All work, no pay? The ethics behind unpaid internships

By Autumn Woodard In June 2013, a Manhattan judge ruled in favor of two interns who weren’t paid for their time working with Fox Entertainment Industry. Instead of completely wiping out the unpaid internship, stricter guidelines were put in place. To be considered ethical, unpaid internships must meet Labor Department guidelines. (more…)
