Trevecca campus battling ice and fallen trees as heat fails in resident halls

Lauren Steinbrook News and Engagement Editor Trevecca students are bunking with friends, sleeping in classrooms and showering in locker rooms as four university residence halls were left without heat and power following an ice storm Sunday, forcing dozens of students to seek temporary housing. Bush, Redford, Shingler and Benson Hall were among the buildings affected after freezing rain caused fallen trees, power outages and unsafe conditions throughout Trevecca Nazarene University’s campus. Record-breaking snowfall brought fun and stress

By Julia Ballard Staff Writer Photo by Alayna Simons, Editor-in-Chief Due to snowfall and icy conditions on campus, a three-day weekend turned into more than a week off of in-person classes and normally scheduled campus activities for students and staff. In a recent article reporting on snowfall from The Tennessean, Nashville received 7 1/2 inches of snow in under a week, and due to warmer temperatures following the storm, caused a layer of ice to cover the campus. The layer of this ice resulted in a prolonged start back to classes. “Having a week off school was really great and fun, but it was really difficult for me to maintain any routine during snow week,” said Ashtyn Underwood, a junior communication studies major. Students hoping for a big snowfall and a day off

By Christy Ulmet Nashville is bracing for what may be the biggest snowfall in 10 years and Trevecca students are hoping--and tweeting--for a day off. The National Weather Service is forecasting that snow will begin falling in the early hours of the morning and continuing on through the day. An upwards of 3-7 inches is expected throughout the day. The forecast has students resurrecting a twitter hashtag from last year: #cancelclasstrevecca. The hashtag, which was used in March when Trevecca did end up canceling classes for weather, was used more 40 times in three hours so far today, making it obvious that students would like a snow day.
