Charly Taylor, a 2013 graduate of Trevecca’s nursing program, was hired as the part-time clinician, meaning the clinic will reopen for the first time since June 2023.

“I wasn’t really actively searching for anything; I was content where I was. I felt like the Lord had me in the right place,” Taylor said. “But then I had some people reach out to me, and I knew Dean (Jessica) Dykes from when I was a student. As she explained what was needed and what was going on, I felt really interested, and I felt like the Lord put it on my heart.”

After graduating from Trevecca, Taylor earned a master’s degree in nursing from Austin Peay State University. She has been a practicing family nurse practitioner since 2014. Before returning to Trevecca, she worked in primary care and as an emergency room nurse at Ascension Saint Thomas West in Nashville. She is married and has two young children.

“Charly came to us with a strong background, and she was a student here,” said Jessica Dykes, vice president and dean of student development. “We’re really excited to welcome her back to her alma mater and have her help us as we reopen our clinic.”

Before the clinic’s closure in 2023, it offered general first aid, allergy shots, flu and COVID-19 tests, and flu shots.

According to Taylor, the current range of services is still being determined, but she hopes the clinic will eventually provide primary care and support for chronic illnesses like diabetes and high blood pressure.

Since Taylor is part-time, the clinic will only be open a few days a week. However, students can still access 24/7 doctor and counseling visits through TimelyCare.

Students have expressed excitement about the clinic’s reopening, particularly the option to see a healthcare provider on campus.

“I am very excited that the clinic will be open again,” said Emma Grace Hicks, sophomore class president. “We discussed the issues that students face with the absence of a clinic nearly every week in our SGA meetings, but there really wasn’t much we could do about it. This will be an incredibly helpful resource, especially for our international community, who don’t have access to healthcare or transportation.”

For the remainder of this semester the clinic is open on the following dates from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Tuesday, Dec. 3

Thursday, Dec. 5

Monday, Dec. 9

Tuesday, Dec. 10.

Starting next semester, the clinic will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Students can walk in or schedule an appointment through the student health portal at trevecca.studenthealthportal.com, by emailing clinic@trevecca.edu, or by calling (615) 248-1261.
