Trevecca Student releases single

By: Princess Jones Raquel Rivas remembers vividly the details of the day she found out about her best friend Auburn McCormick album audition. “I do remember very clearly, I helped her pick out an outfit and shoes for it. She was really nervous, but I knew she had it in her to make them fall in love with her and her music. I remember telling her as she walked out the door, "You're gonna make it, and they're going to see the you I get to see and they're going to love you,” said Rivas. That audition would land one of McCormick songs on a new album created by David Webb to help singers get exposure in the music industry. McCormick’s single “No Streetlights” was chosen for the album.  This is the first Nashville Dreamin album to be released. (more…)

Trojan Idols Top Five Finalist

By: Princess Jones Gracie Pierce, Madison Clements, Cameron McClure, Brianna Corbett, and Que’ Dell Chithambo are Trojan Idols top five finalists. Last night Trevecca’s students and faculty headed to the Boone Building to kick off the two-night singing competition. Ten contestants competed against each other for the votes of the judges and students. For most of the performers being on stage was energizing and nerve-wracking all at once. “I was super nervous about being on stage. If I’m honest, I don’t have a ton of experience performing. However, once I started performing, I felt kind of ignited. There’s kind of a high you feel when you connect with the crowd,” said Madison Clements, Trojan Idol finalist. (more…)

Center for Music and Worship Arts celebrates grand opening

By Bailey Basham After more than 14 months of construction, work on the Jackson Center for Music and Worship Arts is complete. The university will celebrate its opening and dedication with a week of concerts in the performance hall. The university closed the $1.4 million real estate deal in Dec. 2015 on the land that formerly belonged to Volunteer Trucking Company and renovations on the existing buildings on the property began soon after. The Jackson Center for Music and Worship arts, named in honor of William R. Jackson’s music-loving mother and daughter, is home to the Department of Music, the Center of Worship Arts and the National Praise and Worship Institute (NPWI). (more…)

Security investigating third chapel equipment theft

By Brooklyn Dance When the chapel band on Feb. 7 showed up to Boone Convocation Center to warm up, they realized their keyboard was gone. For the second time this year, a keyboard that belongs to the university and is used for chapel has been stolen.  A set of drums owned by a student member of the band was also recently stolen.  The two keyboards are valued at $3,000. Trevecca security officials are investigating the incident. “There hasn’t been any forced entry, no broken windows or kicked doors,”  said Greg Dawson, director of security.  “We are waiting to review video so we can determine how they gained access.” The building was locked when the theft happened and Dawson said the keyboard was stolen within an eight-hour window between security loc...

Music Building to Open for Classes in Spring

By Sydney Wisman Students enrolled in music programs at Trevecca can expect to begin classes in the building in January. The $7.9 million 25,509-square-foot building will be home to three classrooms, five studios for private instruction, seven practice rooms, additional spaces for instrumental and choral instruction and a 2,810-square-foot black box theatre. Trevecca closed the $1.4 million deal on the land that previously belonged to Volunteer Trucking Company in December of last year. Renovations on existing buildings on the property began in January 2016. Those buildings are to house the Center for Music and Worship Arts—an idea over 20 years in the making. (more…)

Trevecca Students Play Popular Nashville Music Venue

By Antonio Guerrero A Trevecca band played its second show ever at a storied Nashville venue just a week after their debut at a Hub Show on campus. “This is our first actual performance at a venue but only our second performance as a band”, said TJ Magee, vocalist and founder of the all-Trevecca student band, Eustace. Formed this fall, the band is made up of five Trevecca students who decided to start a band after leading worship together at Cornerstone Church in Ala. (more…)

New Requirements in Worship Arts

By Anali Frias The worship arts program will have new requirements starting in the fall. The interdisciplinary program, which trains worships leaders, will now include coursework in music theory, conducting and playing an instrument in addition to requirements of theology and communication courses. “Almost every job posting I reviewed assumes that the prospective employee will have musical training,” said Sam Green, program director and music professor at Trevecca. The revised program will allow students to have a musical experience, while maintaining the versatile approach of the worship arts program, said Green. Trevecca student opera to be performed at Noah Liff Opera Center

  by Ashley Walling An opera written and produced by Trevecca students will be performed at the home of Nashville Opera. On April 23, 2016 students will perform Requiem for the Living at the Noah Liff Opera Center. This is the first time Trevecca students have performed at the center. “The opportunity to stage a performance in a professional venue, and in cooperation with a professional opera company is a fantastic thing that was before never imagined, although now it is coming to life,” said Eric Wilson, chair of the department of music.
