Gospel choir sings in Haitian churches

More than 60 members of Trevecca’s new gospel choir spent last weekend singing in Haitian Nazarene churches in Orlando, FL. The choir, which formed this semester, took its first road trip to five small Haitian congregations to minister to Haitian community in the aftermath of the Haiti earthquake and to promote Trevecca to the students of the Haitian churches. “I think we accomplished everything we set out to accomplish and more. We were both touched by lives and touched lives, we saw a great response from the Haitian students, and our students grew through the experience,” said Dr. John Ray, the director of the Gospel Choir. Two Trevecca students, two John Lennon contests

By Adam Wadding Two Trevecca students have been named finalists in two prestigious song writing contests. Junior Stefanie Wienecke and Sophomore Andrea Corzine both placed in contests named after the Beatles legend John Lennon. The BMI John Lennon Songwriting program, entered by Corzine, awards scholarships to the best original composition for vocal instrumental performance. Corzine is among the top 40 finalists of the 96 contestants that entered.  She’ll know in June if she’s won a $10,000 scholarship or one of the $5,000 scholarships the runners-up will receive. Expansion of Benson Brew gains popularity among students

By Jacob Perry What started as a small coffee shop-like venue for musicians on campus nearly four years ago has now turned into an all-out concert performance. Benson Brew, a student music showcase at Trevecca, has more than doubled its audience since its expansion two years ago thanks to a new format. James Thurman, current freshman and Residence Hall Association Student Advisor at TNU, attributes some of the Brew’s growth to changes in its location. (more…)

New gospel choir strikes chord of interest

By Amy Taylor More than 85 students have signed up for Trevecca’s newest choir. The Gospel Choir, which kicked off this spring, has nearly three times more students than organizers expected and could have had more if not for capping the enrollment. (more…)
