TrevEchoes Podcast EP. 3: from banned ballroom to Broadway, dancing history at Trevecca.

Lauren Steinbrook News and Engagement Editor For decades, dancing at Trevecca Nazarene University was restricted by church guidelines that shaped campus life and student culture. Today, students rehearse high-energy Broadway choreography on the Benson stage — a transformation that reflects deeper shifts in how faith, art and expression intersect on campus. In this episode, TrevEchoes reporter Lauren Steinbrook traces Trevecca’s evolving relationship with dance, from strict prohibitions in the late 20th century to modern productions like Newsies. Through interviews with Dr. Lena Hegi Welch, dean of the School of Arts and Social Sciences and a Trevecca alumna, senior theater education major Jules Twining and longtime theater professor Jeff Frame, the episode explores how student...

Trevecca community works to recover after winter ice storm disruption

Macey Smith Student Reporter Days after classes resumed following a winter snowstorm, many Trevecca students are still working to catch up on their missed classes, delayed assignments and disrupted schedules.  A record-setting ice storm on Jan. 25 forced the university to cancel in-person classes for a full week and while classes have since returned to normal, students and faculty say the interruption created many academic challenges that could not be resolved immediately.  Power outages, limited internet access, and difficult communication during the storm left some students behind before classes even resumed.  Tree limbs block a main campus road at Trevecca Nazarene University during a January 2026 ice storm in Nashville, Tenn. / TrevEchoes - Parker Hennings...

Students work to find balance between finals, holiday season and obligations

By Ellie Wilson Contributor With finals on the horizon, Trevecca’s campus has changed its tone. The library, once a peaceful, quiet place is now abuzz with students cramming for exams. Megan Carver, a senior psychology major who works as the advanced student supervisor at the library speaks to the change in the environment. “I’ve noticed a pattern each year,” Carver says. “It gets a lot more chaotic around finals. The difference between regular semester and finals week is that there's a lot more action around here. ” Carver is not the only person who has noticed the impact of finals on campus culture. Students live with ‘silent disabilities’ on campus

By Ellie Willson Contributor As the sun rises over the Nashville skyline, Trevecca’s campus begins to stir. Students begin to wake up for their 8 a.m. classes, and teachers pull onto campus ready to teach. For many, the process of getting out of bed is difficult, but it is a minuscule problem that gets lost in the shuffle of everyday life. For others, however, a war is waged before they step out of their dorm for the day. These warriors look like any other student, but their battles with chronic illness set them apart in a major way. One of these warriors is Olivia Jarrell, a freshman business major and STUNT athlete. Diagnosed with Addison’s disease, an autoimmune disorder, she lacks vital hormones, which cause her to feel heavily fatigued and appear very tan. She discusses how d...

Chapel Theme Addresses ‘Epidemic of Loneliness’

Photo courtesy Trevecca Marketing By Mia Agee Assistant News Editor Prior to attending Trevecca, Naomi Akinbade, senior biology major and student body chaplain, had been deeply wounded by her friendships and other close relationships. Though she considers herself an extrovert and an avid people person, these “love wounds” caused her to maintain shallow relationships and isolate herself from others. Once she confessed her struggles to her friends and began practicing vulnerability–a challenge she said God placed on her heart–she discovered that many of her friends were facing some of the same things. This calling, paired with conversations with Erik Gernand, university chaplain, birthed the idea for this year’s chapel theme–“a binding together in love.” The university’s cha...
