Trevecca seeks new athletic director

By Morgan Daniels and Tyler D. Whetstone Trevecca will have a new athletics director next year. Brenda Patterson, director of intercollegiate athletics at Trevecca, will finish her duties and contract through the end of June. Trevecca is currently in the process of applying to be a NCAA Division II school. University officials said they are seeking a different direction for Trevecca athletics, said Dan Boone, university president. “We felt for the overall good of the athletic department, that it was in the best interest to make a change,” Dan Boone, university president, said. 8.0 seconds: Story of Trevecca’s Rodeo Cowboy

By Tyler D. Whetstone The first time 22 year old freshman Justin Carr got on the back of a bull he had a helmet, nerves, and some prayers. He waited patiently until his name was called. Minutes later the gate was opened. Jager Bomb was a certified Professional Bull Riding bull, and Carr held on for dear life. 3.7 seconds later he was on the ground. After getting hit in the chest and kicked in the leg by the 1500 pound beast Carr found out he did well. (more…)

A non-typical american college student

By Rejane Migliore Anne Marie Kengne is an unlikely candidate to be an American college student. Growing up in Africa, where girls don’t typically go to school, Kengne was raised by a single mother who sacrificed even to buy shoes for herself to save every cent towards her daughter’s education. Now a senior psychology major at Trevecca, Kengne knows that education is her key to a better life. (more…)

Confessions of a not-so-super model

By Rejane Migliore Being a beautiful woman doesn’t depend on weight, hair or clothes, a former beauty pageant contestant told female students at Trevecca. Brooklyn Lindsey, a beauty pageant contestant turned to be a mom and youth minister. She spent some time with just girls on campus, in addition to speaking in chapel last week. Her message to young women: God made you and loves you and that makes you beautiful. Lindsey, the author of The Confessions of a Not-So-Supermodel: Faith, Friends, and Festival Queens, spoke to women about some of her own journey from being focused on physical appearance to focusing on God’s plan for all of her life. Trevecca students raise money for reentry into Croatia

By Amy Taylor A group of five Trevecca students and alumni need to raise about $100,000 if their dream of establishing a Nazarene ministry in Croatia is going to come true. The Trevecca students, who will serve as Mission Corps volunteers through the Church of the Nazarene, are planning to leave for Croatia in August as the Nazarene Church’s first missionaries there in five years. “It’s a really good opportunity and a huge step for the Nazarene Church letting college students go in,” Emily Humble, a member of the team, said. Student petition now in hands of Trevecca administration

Students meet with an administrator in regards to the non-renewal of an education professor's contract By Morgan Daniels Six students met on Wednesday with an administrator to plead their case for a Trevecca education professor whose contract was not renewed for next year. Supporters of Dusteen Knotts, an associate professor of education who was told by administrators that her contract is not being renewed next year, have created a petition that they said includes 90 education majors’ signatures. The students spent about 30 minutes with Carol Maxson, associate provost and dean of academic affairs, offering examples of the ways Knotts has impacted their lives while at Trevecca. (more…)

Education professor confirms contract will not be renewed

Students start a petition to ask administration to reconsider contract By Morgan Daniels The professor who teaches students how to teach students with disabilities, will not be back in a Trevecca classroom next year.
