Future on-campus parking changes

By Amy Taylor Trevecca administration might start charging students to park their cars on campus. “We are out of parking on this campus,” David Caldwell, executive vice president for administration and finance, said. The long-term solution to this problem is to build a parking garage, Caldwell said. And administration is trying to find ways to save money in order to build a garage. (more…)

Hub changes from Chik-fil-A

By Amy Taylor Trevecca students are quick to make suggestions about food choices on campus, but they aren’t always so quick to put their money where their mouth is. In an effort to implement student suggestions about food options, the company that oversees the cafeteria and the Hub is experimenting with different options and trying to find one that sells. After failed attempts at selling Chick-Fil-A and sushi in the Hub, Pioneer College Caterers is opting for a Wendy’s-like spicy chicken sandwich everyday instead. “We couldn’t get the sales up,” Renee Carrier, service manager of Pioneer, said. Plans for McClurkan renovations

By Amy Taylor The McClurkan Building will be undergoing some major renovations beginning in May. “Since it’s the most iconic building on campus, we wanted to return it to a primary use facility,” David Caldwell, executive vice president for administration and finance, said. In the spring semester of 2010, inspectors cited critical structural issues that need to be dealt with in the short-term “if we wanted to maintain the integrity of the structure,” Caldwell said. Cafeteria goes from Styrofoam to green-on-the-go

By Amy Taylor Pioneer College Caterers, the company that provides food for students, administration and faculty on campus, has invested in a simpler, more environmentally friendly way for people to eat their meals outside the cafeteria. “It doesn’t—in the end—cost you anything,” Renee Carrier, service manager of Pioneer College Caterers, said. On Jan. 25 alone, 200 Styrofoam to-go boxes were taken from the caf, Carrier said. “It’s just a really high number,” Carrier said. (more…)

Lady Trojans continue success with defense

Whetstone On a day when back to back national champion Union University was upset on a buzzer beater for their first lost in the past 61 TranSouth games, the Lady Trojans (11-11, 8-3) took care of business at home versus rival Cumberland University. The win gave the Lady Trojans their fourth straight win, and placed them at .500 for the first time since they were 1-1. For Head Coach Gary Van Atta, the season has been one of two halves. (more…)

8.0 seconds: Story of Trevecca’s Rodeo Cowboy

By Tyler D. Whetstone The first time 22 year old freshman Justin Carr got on the back of a bull he had a helmet, nerves, and some prayers. He waited patiently until his name was called. Minutes later the gate was opened. Jager Bomb was a certified Professional Bull Riding bull, and Carr held on for dear life. 3.7 seconds later he was on the ground. After getting hit in the chest and kicked in the leg by the 1500 pound beast Carr found out he did well. (more…)

A non-typical american college student

By Rejane Migliore Anne Marie Kengne is an unlikely candidate to be an American college student. Growing up in Africa, where girls don’t typically go to school, Kengne was raised by a single mother who sacrificed even to buy shoes for herself to save every cent towards her daughter’s education. Now a senior psychology major at Trevecca, Kengne knows that education is her key to a better life. (more…)

Trojan Basketball One more step

Whetstone Men’s basketball Head Coach Sam Harris is confident his players are capable and that his team more than able to make some noise when the TranSouth Conference tournament begins the first day of March. This is good news because winning the TranSouth tournament at the conclusion of the season is the only way Harris and his Trojans (10-13, 4-7) can advance to the national tournament for the first time since 2007-2008. Unfortunately, the theme of the season, and constant battle has been that Harris has been unsure of what he’ll see from his team before every game. (more…)

Confessions of a not-so-super model

By Rejane Migliore Being a beautiful woman doesn’t depend on weight, hair or clothes, a former beauty pageant contestant told female students at Trevecca. Brooklyn Lindsey, a beauty pageant contestant turned to be a mom and youth minister. She spent some time with just girls on campus, in addition to speaking in chapel last week.  Her message to young women: God made you and loves you and that makes you beautiful. Lindsey, the author of The Confessions of a Not-So-Supermodel: Faith, Friends, and Festival Queens, spoke to women about some of her own journey from being focused on physical appearance to focusing on God’s plan for all of her life. Courtship week changes to weekend

By Katie O'connell On a stage surrounded by red and white balloons, Emy Smith pondered the question in front of her. Five others joined her on stage for Trevecca’s edition of “The Newlywed Game,” where one half of a couple answered questions about their partner. The current question?
