Trevecca’s annual Friday Night Live takes the stage

By Christy Ulmet After nearly three months of preparation, more than 30 students helped put on the two back to back sold out shows of this year’s Friday Night Live. Keeping the noise going for the evening was the FNL band, made up of students. Hosted by Trevecca’s very own Dr. Mike Jackson, FNL drew nearly 500 people. (more…)

Christian author visits Trevecca

By Nadia Smith  On Tuesday, a handful of Trevecca students and staff gathered in Waggoner Library to hear author Addie Zierman read excerpts of her book "When We Were on Fire." "When We Were on Fire" is a coming of age memoir about Zierman trying to untangle herself from the Jesus freak, us-versus-them culture of the 90s and the struggles that she faced while trying to redefine her faith as an adult. Trevecca to host film week leading up to annual film festival

By: Christy Ulmet Trevecca is kicking off its annual 72-Hour Film Festival with Film Week, a full week of activities leading up to the festival this year. “White Like Me,” a documentary about racism will screen tonight, a communication professor will offer a film-making boot camp tomorrow night and short films produced by Trevecca students will screen Friday night.  “I really would like to develop this full-fledged and make it a yearly thing. We’d have a week with films, discussions, boot camp, and contests and hopefully more and more students will get involved,” said Jamey Durham, associate professor of communication. (more…)

Trevecca opens Doctor Faustus this week

By Nadia Smith Performance Dates and Times Gangsters, a demon, and the devil himself will be taking the stage this month in Trevecca’s adaption of Christopher Marlowe’s "Doctor Faustus." "Doctor Faustus" is a cautionary tale about a man who sells his soul to the devil for power and knowledge. About 17 Trevecca students have spent 18 hours a week for the past several weeks rehearsing for the show. One of the reasons Jeff Frame, professor of dramatic arts and communication, chose the classic play is because of its serious themes. (more…)

Singing Bee crowns first queen

By Stephens Hiland “Remember those walls I built?” Knowing this one line to Beyoncé’s “Halo” won Christi Fite $100 at Trevecca’s first Singing Bee. “I thought I would be out in the first round. I was confident in that,” said Fite, sophomore. Held in TSAC, the Singing Bee was comprised of 12 contestants and emceed by Cassie Hunt, sophomore. The contestants were played a song from categories of their choice: 90’s worship, country, top 40, Disney, Beyoncé and R&B. Much like the CMT game show of the same name, a song would play for a random amount of time before it would be paused, and the contestant would have to immediately say or sing the next line of the song. Oliver! takes stage in renovated auditorium

By Justin Cockrell On April 1st of this year, the renovations to the McClurkan building were completed, providing one of the most historic buildings at Trevecca with a much needed face lift. Now, for the first time, one of the major upgrades in the building will be under the spotlight as the Trevecca theatre department performs “Oliver!” the inaugural theatrical performance for the new Benson Auditorium. “This play was chosen for the students,” Jeff Frame, associate professor of dramatic arts and communication as well as the director of the play, said. “There are struggles portrayed that I think relate to our own world today.” The play, a musical based on the book “Oliver Twist” by Charles Dickens, is centered around a young orphan named Oliver and his experiences on the streets of 183...

SGA hosts new winter retreat, ski retreat

For the first time in years, Trevecca students can go on a winter retreat. And the best part: SGA will pay for half of it. Students who haven’t had their fill of snow yet this year, can spend two days skiing at Perfect North Slopes in Lawrenceburg, IN. (more…)
