Lady Trojans continue success with defense

Whetstone On a day when back to back national champion Union University was upset on a buzzer beater for their first lost in the past 61 TranSouth games, the Lady Trojans (11-11, 8-3) took care of business at home versus rival Cumberland University. The win gave the Lady Trojans their fourth straight win, and placed them at .500 for the first time since they were 1-1. For Head Coach Gary Van Atta, the season has been one of two halves. (more…)

Trojan Basketball One more step

Whetstone Men’s basketball Head Coach Sam Harris is confident his players are capable and that his team more than able to make some noise when the TranSouth Conference tournament begins the first day of March. This is good news because winning the TranSouth tournament at the conclusion of the season is the only way Harris and his Trojans (10-13, 4-7) can advance to the national tournament for the first time since 2007-2008. Unfortunately, the theme of the season, and constant battle has been that Harris has been unsure of what he’ll see from his team before every game. (more…)

Ladies fireside chat creates healthy dialogue

By Alyssa Valletta Handling emotions, learning to set boundaries, and healthy sexuality are a few of the topics female students on campus are discussing with each other, Trevecca RDs and other women leaders. For the second year, Counseling Services is teaming up with RDs to offer female students a safe place to ask questions about everything from friendship to sex to avoiding too-busy schedules. “This is a way to reach out to people, the women specifically, who may feel like they don’t need counseling necessarily,” said Amanda Daly, director of counseling services. SGA hosts new winter retreat, ski retreat

For the first time in years, Trevecca students can go on a winter retreat. And the best part: SGA will pay for half of it. Students who haven’t had their fill of snow yet this year, can spend two days skiing at Perfect North Slopes in Lawrenceburg, IN. (more…)

Trojans scorched by Bulldogs at home

Trojans trample Scots of Lyon

By Tyler Whetstone Michael France scored a game high 24 points as he and the Trevecca Trojans (9-9) found a way out of their shooting slump to stop a three game skid and get back to a game of .500 in TranSouth play at 2-3 by defeating visiting Lyon College (6-10, 0-4). The two teams traded a total of 36 turnovers and as in the previous game, the game was won when Trevecca converted their 19 turnovers into 24 points, while Lyon converted just 10. The Trojans ended the first half and began the second on an 8-2 run before the two teams traded baskets for much of the second half. The lead grew to as many as 13 points and the Trojans held on for a seven point victory. Peyton Henry and JP Nyadaro both added 10 points off the bench for the Trojans. Lady trojans pick up their game against Lyon

By Tyler Whetstone The Lady Trojans (7-10) improved to 4-2 in the TranSouth by knocking off visiting Lyon College (10-7, 2-3), 75-66, Thursday night in the Moore Gymnasium. The Lady Trojans took a five point lead into halftime and extended that lead to 11 by starting the second half on a 9-3 run. The Lady Trojans were solid on defense forcing 22 Lyon turnovers and converting them into 23 points. The Scots rallied midway through the second half to go up a point, 56-55. It was then, at the 6:30 mark, that the Lady Trojans bounced back, scoring 12 of the next 16 points and taking over the game completely. Relief effort volunteers needed

Trevecca Student Government Association (SGA) is asking Trevecca students who have time away from exam studies to help those in the Nashville community that were affected by the rain and flooding over the past weekend. To sign up to volunteer, click here and fill out the form or go to the SGA booth located in the Jernigan Student Center lobby on campus. Student body president Jared Usrey said relief efforts will continue throughout the week.
