Trevecca head baseball coach Ryan Schmalz has collected donations of clothing items and shoes for the University of Houston men’s basketball coach, Kelvin Sampson in an effort to aid the victims of recent Hurricane Harvey.
Schmalz, who is in his sixth season as Trojans head coach, said he initially heard of the request from Sampson via Twitter.

“I wanted to organize a donation from our coaches,” Schmalz said. “Every (coach) might have some teen camp t-shirts or things like that from the summer we could box up and ship down there.”

Hurricane Harvey has devastated Houston and southern Texas for the past week.
Harvey has since been recategorized as a ‘Tropical Storm’ with the anticipated aftermath of the storm already affecting Nashville, the remnants are expected to last until Sunday.
Sampson has been in the Houston area for the past nine years being involved in either collegiate or professional basketball.
Schmalz says most coaches have responded generously with the following Trevecca teams donating t-shirts to the cause: men’s soccer, men and women’s basketball and volleyball.
Schmalz and the athletic department will ship all donations on Friday.
