Lady Trojans hang on against Fisk, 65-58

The Lady Trojans (3-4) defeated the Fisk University Lady Bulldogs (1-9) 65-58 Thursday night in their return to Trojan Fieldhouse after a two game road trip.

The Lady Trojans were led in the second period of action by senior, Sarah Raby. Raby scored 8 of her 10 first half points in the quarter- dominating her opponents in the paint.

The Lady Trojans went on an 8-0 run during the quarter, giving them their largest lead of the half at 10. The Lady Trojans outscored the Lady Bulldogs 22-11 in the quarter, good for a 32-23 halftime advantage.

Leaders at the half:

TNU- #22 Sarah Raby (10 points, 4 rebounds)

Fisk-  #00 LaShae Brown (15 points, 4 rebounds)

The Lady Bulldogs struggled to score in the third quarter, scoring only 13 total points, 11 of which came from LaShae Brown.

With only nine players on their roster, the Lady Bulldogs were simply out-manned tonight. Chad Hibdon’s squad maintained a fast paced offense which the Lady Bulldogs could not match.

The Lady Bulldogs applied a full court press early in the third quarter which allowed the home team to open up their lead to as much as 13 at 40-27.

Ball movement and more hustle gave the third quarter adv15300468_10206270578001810_1479754749_n antage to the Lady Trojans, 53-36.

Late in the third quarter, Sophomore Adi Hale, got her own rebound off a free throw giving the Lady Trojans an extra possession. Hale continued to create more opportunities for her team, coming up with a couple steals and defensive stops on the night.

After the Lady Trojans extended their lead to as much as 20 (53-33) in the last quarter, the visitors made it interesting down the stretch. With just over five and a half minutes left, the Lady Bulldogs only trailed 58-48.

Raby came up with a big defensive stop with three minutes left in the game. After blocking a shot, she gave an outlook pass to Freshman, McKenzie Kilburn, who got it to Hale for the easy layup.

The Lady Bulldogs didn’t go without a fight, scoring 22 fourth quarter points, but couldn’t surmount the Lady Trojans lead.

The Lady Trojans are back in action tomorrow, Dec. 1 against Nashville foe, Belmont University.
