By Andrew Preston

The Lady Trojans 10-6 (3-0) won in four sets against Ohio Valley University 4-14 (0-1) Friday night at the Trojan Fieldhouse in front of a crowd of 307 people.

The Lady Trojans recognized Trevecca biology professor Dr. Reed as tonight’s honorary coach. Dr. Reed was welcomed by running through the lady’s tunnel before the game and also awarded the first serve of the match. He elected to serve underhand, and his shot was called in.

The Lady Trojans took the firs14509359_10205841622958202_953642132_n1t set 25-19. A timeout with the Lady Trojans up 19-15 appeared to be the turning point in the set.

During the second set the Lady Trojans handled the Fighting Scots 25-21. The Fighting Scots hung around in this set longer due to a pair of timeouts taken by head coach Paul Jacoby. Jacoby’s team was able to rally after both timeouts, but were unable to get within 1 point after the Lady Trojans took a 14-12 lead.

The Lady Trojans struggled a little bit in the third before ultimately conceding the set 25-23. The teams traded points after the 16-16 mark until the Fighting Scots were able to take 21-18 lead priming a timeout by the Lady Trojans. The Lady Trojans were able to hold off two set points down 21-24, rallying back to 23-24 before the Fighting Scots took the final point off a kill by Alyx Henry.

The Lady Trojans took the fourth set after battling back and forth seemingly the whole set. With the game tied at 19 all, the Lady Trojans closed out the match on a 6-1 run, winning 25-20.

The Lady Trojans Volleyball team returned to Trojan Fieldhouse Friday night after a very successful three game road trip. They started the trip by gaining two conference wins and now sit atop the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) standings with an overall record of 10-6 (3-0). They ended their time on the road with a three set victory over longtime opponent Oakland City on Tuesday.

Tonight’s game marks the first of the Lady Trojans two game home-stand as they will face Cedarville tomorrow night in a highly anticipated match.

The Lady Yellow Jackets look to be the Lady Trojans biggest competition in G-MAC play this season as they have put together an impressive 10-3 record so far. The Yellow Jackets face Kentucky Wesleyan tonight at 8:00 p.m.

Tomorrow’s game against Cedarville is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. in the Trojan Fieldhouse.
