Lady Trojans shutout Battlers 3-0, next match Saturday

The Lady Trojans 4-3 (2-2) beat Alderson Broaddus University 1-4-1 (1-3-1) by a score of three to zero Thursday night in front of a crowd of 240 at the Trojan Soccer Complex.

The first half was marked with t14442616_10205791431383444_1156978232_nwo Lady Trojan goals. Mid-fielder Hannah Barney got the purple and white on the scoreboard first by burying a shot from inside the box at 16:40. Barney’s goal was assisted by defenseman Sophie Callis.

From there on, the game belonged to the Lady Trojans.

The next goal came from mid-fielder Chelsey Russom at 23:22, however the result was created by Isabella Oviedo. Oviedo assisted on the second Lady Trojans goal after she fell down and lost the ball. The Battlers conceded possession of the ball to Oviedo as she tracked it down, made a couple passes to herself before sending an uncontested cross into her teammate.

The Lady Trojans soccer team recognized the Croft middle school Cougars of Nashville during halftime. The Cougars were joined by head coach Charles Black on the field being acknowledged for their perfect 5-0 season this year.

The second half saw the Lady Trojans score once more. This time Callis was on the scoring end of the point. Callis created her goal after taking a corner kick just seven seconds before finding the net. The Lady Trojans out shot their opponent 11-2.

The Lady Trojans are back in action on Saturday as they take on Davis & Elkins College at the Trojan Soccer Complex. Saturday’s meeting will be the team’s first match-up of the season.
