SGA hosts new winter retreat, ski retreat

For the first time in years, Trevecca students can go on a winter retreat. And the best part: SGA will pay for half of it.

Students who haven’t had their fill of snow yet this year, can spend two days skiing at Perfect North Slopes in Lawrenceburg, IN.

Student government will pay for half of the cost for 24 students to go, making the cost $40 with a SLAP card or $50 without one.  The cost includes rentals, lessons, lodging, lift tickets, and some meals. The cost doesn’t include meals on the way there and back.

But spots won’t last long.

Already more students have indicated interest in attending than there are spots to fill, said Matt Spraker, associate dean of students for community life.

Sign ups have started, but the first 24 students to actually go to the SGA booth in Jernigan and pay will get to go.

The trip isn’t just for experienced skiers.  Students will receive free beginner’s lessons, said Jim Waters, SGA director of social life..

“We’re there for two days, you’ll have time to work on stuff,” said Rece Martin, a senior who is helping coordinate the trip.

Trevecca has not a winter retreat in years, and for the past two years, a fall retreat has been canceled because of lack of interest.

Spraker is hoping this could become an annual event.
